Indigenes of Uru in Ibeama-Ogwa autonomous community are presently living in fears following the activities of a gang of armed robbers that have taken over the entire sleepy community.
Ogwareports gathered no fewer than four robbery incidents, which had left in its trail anguish, that taken place in the community in the past three weeks.
It was gathered that the latest victim of the robbery operation in the community is a female patent medicine dealer, who was dispossessed of her money and other valuables worth over N200, 000.00.
Ogwareports learnt that the female patent medicine dealer (names withheld) was attacked at about 2.00 pm on Sunday morning by the hoodlums, who beat her to stupor before taking away her valuables.
Those so far robbed at gun-point in the community by the criminal gang, include; the pastor –in-charge of the Assemblies of God Church, Uru, the medical director of Union Hospital, Uru, Dr. Ishmael Nwaiwu, and Mr. Enoch Tasie, whose house was ransacked on a Sunday afternoon when the entire household had gone to Church.
Speaking to Ogwareports on the ugly development, an indigene of Uru community, Mr. Anayo Onukwugha berated members of the vigilante team for not living up the expectation of the people of the community.
Onukwugha, who is the general secretary of Okwaraebere Family Union (OFU), wondered by members of the vigilante team were still being paid salaries by the leadership of the community when they cannot curtail the activities of the hoodlums.
“I still wonder why this community is paying these vigilante people at the end of the month when they cannot tackle the increasing rate of crime in this place. Just look at the distance between that chemist and the point where the vigilante people stay, it is not up to one pole, yet these boys robbed the medicine dealer and left uninterrupted.
“I strongly believe that members of the vigilante team have some questions to answer about these incessant incidents in this community. No one seems to be safe here anymore. Who knows who will be their next victim,” he queried.
